Marina Korotaeva
Marina Korotaeva, a professional interpreter, had several professions in her eventful life, including editing in the UN
interpreters' courses, academy of foreign trade, then life in New York, then perestroika. In 1988 she returned to Russia
and in a few years' time she accomplished a unique effort for Russia she created her own jewelry line, the first
in Russia. Now, looking at a piece from Cartier or Chopard, we won't ask ourselves where is our Russian product of the
same quality. The Peter Privaloff Jewelry House started coming to the local Russian market after the august 1998 crisis,
at the moment when most famous and excellently promoted foreign brands felt themselves very uncomfortable on the Russian market.
The attempt to create the "deluxe Russian brand for connoisseurs" after the crisis for many looked completely crazy, at least
it was considered a most risky adventure. Though this deed was very much in the vein of Peter Privaloff himself, an illegitimate
son of Count Sheremetiev, one of the brilliant members of 18th-century Russian Court.
